Medicinal properties of medicinal dandelion

"Roadside dandelion
Was like the golden sun
But it faded and became like
Fluffy white smoke ... "

Vladimir Stepanov

There is probably not a single person who does not see and does not know what it is dandelion, also called dandelion medicinal (Taraxacum officinale)... This perennial plant up to 30-40 cm high belongs to the Astrovye family.

You can meet a dandelion in our country almost everywhere, except for the Far North and desert regions. It grows in meadows, pastures, roadsides, on forest edges, in ravines, near people's homes and in vegetable gardens.

Gardeners and gardeners, and all agricultural workers consider the dandelion to be a weed plant that populates crops of cultivated plants, especially in pastures - at the beginning of summer it seems that it was specially sown there - in the eyes it is dazzled by a multitude of bright yellow flowers. Attempts to remove the dandelion from the site with your hands do not lead to success - the rosette of leaves with flowers remains in your hands, but the root breaks off with a crunch. This means that after a while a sun flower will appear in this place again. Everything is explained by the fact that the root of the dandelion is pivotal and quite long - half a meter or more.

In spring, a rosette of succulent oblong-lanceolate leaves first appears on the surface of the earth, and then the plant drives up its peduncle, hollow inside, at the end of which a basket is formed up to five centimeters in diameter with bright yellow flowers opening to the sun.

Dandelions bloom in May-June, at this time bees and bumblebees hover over the flowers in abundance. After pollination and the end of flowering, the dandelion turns from a yellow flower into a fluffy ball, which is formed from many achenes with a bunch of fine hairs.

They are not very firmly attached to the receptacle, and therefore, after ripening, they are easily torn off by a gust of wind and carried around. There are a lot of seeds in each such ball, and therefore the dandelion spreads quite easily and quickly. Gardeners on their site mowed dandelions, did not allow them to form seeds, and the wind brought them from a neighboring garden. Therefore, there is never a shortage of this beautiful, light plant.

Dandelions have one peculiarity. All parts of it are saturated with bitter milky juice. Anyone who tries to chew a leaf, green flower stalk or root can be convinced of this. But experienced gardeners are not discouraged by this bitterness, they know that young dandelion leaves and its inflorescences are useful in spring, they are saturated with vitamins C, A, B2, E, PP, other substances necessary for the body, and therefore they collect young leaves, soak them for half an hour in three percent a solution of table salt at room temperature and used in vitamin salads.

The rich chemical composition of this plant also explains its other use - medicinal, and it is no coincidence that it has such a name - medicinal dandelion.

Dandelion roots contain triterpene compounds, sterols, choline, nicotinic acid, nicotinamide, rubber, resins, wax, inulin, organic acids (oleanolic, linoleic, palmitic) and other substances.

Dandelion leaves and inflorescences, in addition to the vitamins mentioned above, contain choline, saponins, salts of manganese, iron, calcium, phosphorus.

Dandelion is a medicinal plant that contains bitterness. Its preparations are used to stimulate appetite and improve digestion.

Biologically active substances of medicinal dandelion also have choleretic, diuretic, antispasmodic, laxative properties.

That is why dandelion preparations or its fresh roots are used in scientific medicine to stimulate appetite, improve the secretory and motor activity of the stomach and intestines, increase bile secretion and secretion of the digestive glands.

Dandelion benefits and uses

Due to their rich vitamin and mineral composition, these flowers strengthen the immune system, helping the body to resist various infections, and in case of a cold, relieve the condition of the sick person, working as an antipyretic and expectorant agent.

Pay attention once again to the list of vitamins, and you will see that in its flowers dandelion has a substantial amount of beta-carotene, which has a very positive effect on the condition of hair, nails and skin.

Also, this vitamin is essential if you want to have good vision and a healthy retina, and in old age to reduce the risk of developing diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts and other "visual" troubles.

And the pigment lutein, which gives a yellow color to flowers, plays an important role in maintaining the health of the eyes, maintaining visual acuity and the purity of the lenses.

They have a beneficial effect on the condition of the gastrointestinal tract, as they contain fiber, which helps to improve metabolism and improves peristalsis!

This means that there will be no constipation and toxins will be removed from the body in a timely manner (I think this is very good), and dandelion also prevents gas formation and soothes stomach pains.

The presence of useful bitterness in this plant is very disliked by various parasites, therefore, another useful property is the successful fight against these unwanted roommates in our body.

They contain inulin, which will help lower blood sugar levels and cope with diabetes to some extent.

They help in the presence of joint problems, improving the regeneration of cartilage tissue, acting as a chondroprotector, and also, having an analgesic effect, relieve the condition of people suffering from joint diseases.

For example, for the treatment of sore joints with arthritis and polyarthritis, it is recommended to eat 10 flowers daily, chewing thoroughly, and if the disease is chronic, then the flowers must be prepared in advance, dried and in winter, steamed them with boiling water, eat 1 tablespoon a day, in the morning on an empty stomach ...

And for pain in the joints, use a tincture of flowers on a triple cologne, which gives a persistent anesthetic effect, only with the resulting tincture, you need to rub the joints, and not take it inside :)

Collect dandelion heads during flowering, put them tightly in a jar, pour this triple perfume, leave for 10-12 days, filter and use if necessary.

They treat and cleanse the liver, help its work, remove toxins and heavy metals.

They have a choleretic effect, which means that bile will not stagnate and therefore the risk of developing gallbladder diseases is reduced.

Strengthening the outflow of bile helps relieve inflammation and soreness in the liver. Dandelion also helps to remove small stones from the gallbladder.

They have a diuretic effect, which contributes to the correct water exchange in the body, therefore, there will be no edema.

They protect the urinary tract from the multiplication of microbes, performing prophylaxis against infections of the genitourinary system.

Strengthen the heart and blood vessels, cleanse them of excess cholesterol and toxins, preventing the development of cardiovascular diseases.

Dandelion flowers will be useful for those who suffer from high blood pressure, they help to reduce it and bring it back to normal.

A large amount of antioxidants in flowers help prevent the development of cancer.

They have a moderate tonic effect, invigorate, but at the same time they do not overexcite the nervous system, but put the nerves in order, soothe, therefore, with insomnia, when it is caused by anxious thoughts, they help to normalize sleep.

With prolonged use, they can strengthen memory, improve concentration and stimulate brain activity.

In general, these are not just flowers of an annoying weed, but a real treasure for our body with you, therefore dandelion rightfully occupies an honorable place in traditional medicine recipes, is of great benefit, and is widely used in the treatment and prevention of various kinds of diseases.

Dandelion contraindications

Dandelion flowers have not only beneficial properties, but it is also quite natural that such a wonderful herbal “healer” also has contraindications for use:

They cannot be used for serious disorders and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, for example, with ulcers and gastritis, since the substances contained in this product can irritate the mucous membrane, and things will get even worse

The plant has a choleretic effect, therefore it is contraindicated in case of blockage of the biliary tract, as it can provoke the movement of large stones, and as a result, cause an attack

Flowers have a moderate, but still tonic effect, so those who have serious heart ailments, it is better to refrain from taking them, you never know what it will turn out

Allergy sufferers need to be careful, as there may be an individual intolerance to the components of this plant

As always, in the case of the use of any medicinal plants, they are reinsured and pregnant and lactating women are included in the risk group.

With the simultaneous use of dandelion flowers and aspirin, or some other antibiotics, the absorption of drugs may deteriorate.

There is one such nuance: beta-carotene, contained in large quantities in these flowers, is not friendly with bad habits, alcohol and nicotine.

So drinking a healthy cocktail and then smoking a cigarette is not a good idea, you decided to improve your health with the help of a dandelion, then forget for a while, or better forever, about this poison in the form of alcohol and tobacco!

Even if all of the above contraindications do not apply to you, and you are healthy, as they say, like a bull, you should not abuse and overeat these flowers, otherwise you can get problems with the gastrointestinal tract, diarrhea or vomiting. You need to remember that you need to know when to stop in everything :)
