The standard depth of the pool is 1.5-1.6 m, but if you wish, you can order or build a pool bowl with your own hands with other parameters. In the pool where children will swim, it would be good to provide a separate zone with a depth of no more than 1 meter.


Fans of extreme diving from a springboard should provide a zone in the pool with a depth of about 2.5 meters. Alternatively, you can install a pool in which the depth increases gradually.

Foundation pit

First of all, you need to choose a site for the future pool. It is desirable that it is on clay soil. The area around the pool should not be planted with shrubs and trees, so that fallen leaves do not clog the water.

After that, you can start arranging the pit.

  1. Mark the pit. It should be borne in mind that for the convenience of performing the work, the length and width of the pit should be 1 meter more than the dimensions of the pool bowl.
  2. You can dig a pit manually or using an excavator. The depth of the pit should exceed the height of the pool bowl by 30-50 cm.
  3. The bottom of the pit must be leveled, covered with medium-sized crushed stone (layer thickness - 20-30 cm) and tamped.
  4. A mesh of reinforcement is laid (the section of the bar is about 3 cm, the size of the cell is about 25 cm). The grid is placed on bricks, at a height of 5-7 cm from the level of crushed stone. Bricks are installed evenly along the entire bottom of the pit.
  5. Pouring concrete. The thickness of the screed should be about 30 cm. The concrete layer is leveled and left until it hardens completely (about 5 days).
  6. A dense geotextile should be laid on concrete, and on top of it - a heat insulator (foam or extruded polystyrene foam). Foam or EPS sheets are connected together with paper clips or tape.
  7. The resulting "pie" must be covered with black plastic wrap and proceed to the installation of the pool bowl.

Installation of the structure

Depending on the size of the pool, the bowl can be assembled as a whole or assembled from parts already in place. After the pool body is installed, it is necessary to connect the devices (water treatment, filtration, heating systems). The pipes from the systems are led to the service room, from which the equipment maintenance will be carried out.

The subsequent fixing of the pool bowl is as follows:

  1. Spacers are installed inside the pool to hold the walls and the shape of the bowl.
  2. A protective sleeve must be put on all pipes adjacent to the pool.
  3. Formwork should be installed around the pool bowl and reinforced.
  4. Fill the pool bowl with water to a depth of about 30 cm.
  5. Pour concrete around the pool (concrete layer no more than 30 cm).
  6. When pouring concrete, it is important to control that the walls of the pool do not bend. If necessary, install additional spacers.
  7. After the first layer of concrete has hardened (after about a day), add water to the pool by 30-40 cm and pour the second layer of concrete no more than 30 cm thick.
  8. Step by step, adhering to the described technology, it is necessary to make concreting of the external walls of the pool.
  9. After the concrete has completely solidified, the formwork is dismantled, the space between the wall of the pit and the concrete must be filled with sand and ground.
  10. The territory adjacent to the pool should be “refined” (lay tiles, plant a lawn and flowers, install lighting).

How to independently make a pool from polypropylene sheets: an algorithm of actions and useful recommendations

If you wish, you can buy sheet polypropylene for the pool and create a bowl yourself. To do this, you need to prepare the following tools and materials:

  • polypropylene sheets of dimensions 4 * 1.5 m (the thickness of the sheet for the bowl is 8 mm, for the manufacture of internal steps you can take thinner - 5 mm)
  • soldering iron for polypropylene (hand extruder or hot air gun (hair dryer))
  • extruder attachments for joining sheets at different angles
  • polypropylene rod for welding seams
  • tools for cutting polypropylene (tools designed for cutting wood are suitable).

Tools for welding polypropylene are expensive, so it is advisable not to buy them, but to rent them from a company that works with plastic sheets

The manufacturing technology of polypropylene pools is as follows:

  1. Draw up a drawing indicating all the required dimensions of the pool (height of the sides, length, width of the pool, turning angle or radius of the circle).
  2. Show schematically the location of the steps (internal - from polypropylene or hinged - from metal). The steps inside the pool look very nice and they are more convenient than the hinged ones, but in order to build them you will have to work extra: calculate the number of steps, material consumption, "cut out" the elements of the steps from polypropylene sheets and weld them together.
  3. We make the base of the pool - weld the required number of sheets together and lay the canvas on the prepared bottom of the pit.
  4. Draw the outline of the future pool on the basis.
  5. Solder the polypropylene sheets in such a way that a canvas is obtained:
    • canvas width = height of the sides of the pool
    • canvas length = pool perimeter - the length of the side with steps (if hinged steps are installed in the pool, then all sides of the pool are taken into account).
  6. Install the canvas (pool walls) on the base of the bowl (strictly along the contour) and weld from the outside to the bottom.
  7. Install spacers and center the pool walls against the bottom.
  8. Craft steps. On the inside, the joints between the steps are better welded with a rod (oval), and on the outside - with an extruder with a seam nozzle - 90 degrees.
  9. Connect the finished steps to the side of the pool and check the joints.
  10. Mount the pool side with steps to the overall structure (weld from the outside with a hand extruder - side seams and seams along the bottom).
  11. After welding the stairs, bottom and walls, stiffeners must be welded. A hot air gun and welding rod can be used. The distance between the stiffeners is about 60 cm, the polypropylene thickness is 8 mm.
  12. If desired, the walls of the pool can be insulated with foam.

The do-it-yourself pool bowl is ready. The further procedure for installing the pool ("wiring" communications, pouring concrete, decorating the territory) is similar to the installation of the finished bowl described above.

Polypropylene is easy to use and durable in operation, and pools made of "thermoplastic sheet" are gaining more and more popularity every year due to their numerous advantages.


Finishing work with a bowl

When the installation of the polypropylene pool is over, everything is installed, the space around the bowl is filled up. It is advisable to assemble the formwork and concrete the given space.When pouring with concrete, care must be taken that the walls of the bowl do not bend. Only before the start of the last stage of excavation is it necessary to make a trial run of the pool. For this, spacers are installed from the outside and the bowl is poured with water. If you do not need to make any global changes - replacing waterworks, or re-equipping the pool lighting, or the pool room itself, which can be attributed to a major overhaul - then only minor and medium repairs remain.

Small repair Is an unforeseen repair. It can happen anytime: a backlight or a water heating element burned out, or a water supply pipe burst (usually made of PVC), or something else - these are all minor repairs.

Medium repair it is provided when not individual elements of a system fail, but the whole system: filtration, or heating, or hydraulic control of the spa pool. It may also require repair of the pool bowl itself (more often this is due to poor-quality welding of the seams).
